Recently, BIDV has been named as one of the 100 most sustainable companies in Vietnam in 2020 at the ceremony held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.

Among the 500 short-listed companies in different business fields, the organizer voted for the top 100 most sustainable companies with pioneering moves in sustainable development in Vietnam. It is for a third year in a row that BIDV has made the list (previously in 2018, 2019 and now 2020).

The bank’s business strategy and vision to 2030 has specified its target to provide benefits to customers, shareholders, employees and the community. BIDV has been open and transparent towards GRI sustainability standards; standardizing environmental risk management with its credit rating process and environmental risks assessment which require its customers to strictly comply with regulations of law on environmental protection.

In recent years, BIDV has given priority to financing green credit projects at about VND20,000 billion; thus being recognized and trusted by credit institutions and international community amid the many changes of management mechanism for foreign entrusted funds of the Government. BIDV has successfully built Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) which qualified the bank to be funded by The Asian Development Bank (ADB) a medium-long term loan worth USD300 million financing SMEs in Vietnam. BIDV has also successfully called funds for projects such as the Skills and Knowledge for Inclusive Economic Growth Project worth USD75 million funded by ADB; Dynamic Cities Integrated Development Project worth USD141 million funded by WB; etc.

Having defined that sustainable development goals could only be achieved when economic goals are met, BIDV is among the top tax payers in Vietnam for many years, indicating the bank’s social responsibility. In 2019, BIDV paid VND8,168 billion of tax. Moreover, BIDV has actively financed a lot of social programs. In 2019, BIDV was the sponsor of nearly 100 social security programs nationwide with a total budget of over VND220 billion.

About the Top 100 most sustainable companies in Vietnam: The ranking is based on the Corporate Sustainable Index (CSI), which has extremely stringent criteria including 127 indicators in 4 areas: Sustainable Development Index, Governance Index, Environmental Index and Labor Index. The CSI 2020 has been  updated with changes to meet the requirements of important free trade agreements that Vietnam has recently signed like the CPTPP - Comprehensive and Progressive Partnership Agreement Trans-Pacific, EVFTA - Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement; as well as important changes in labor and environmental management policies which have a great impact on business operations. In particular,  17 Sustainable Development Goals and the National Action Plan to implement 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development have been simplified and integrated into CSI 2020 Indicators. .
